Detailed Day Wise Itinerary
-
Day 1: Marrakech » Telouet Kasbah » Ait Ben Haddou » Ounila Valley » Ouarzazate[206Km]
Your desert trip begins with our friendly driver/guide picking you up from your Marrakech accommodation at 8:30 in the morning. You'll be traveling in comfort in a private 4x4 vehicle or a spacious Mercedes minivan for larger groups. As we embark on this unforgettable 4 days Marrakech desert tour to Merzouga, our first destination is Ouarzazate, and we'll traverse the breathtaking High Atlas mountains, with the magnificent Tizi N'Tichka pass at 2,260 meters being a highlight of the journey.
Along the way, we'll treat your eyes to a feast of colorful landscapes, and we'll make picturesque stops to capture the charm of Berber villages through your camera lens. Our route will lead us to the remarkable Telouat Kasbah, once the opulent palace of the Pasha of Marrakech, Thami El Glaoui, and his family. After exploring this historical gem, you'll have some free time to relish a local culinary delight in town, or we can proceed to our next destination, Ait Benhaddou, via the scenic Ounila Valley. Here, you'll have the privilege of witnessing the simple beauty of Berber villages nestled amidst the mountains, their homes crafted from adobe.
Our ultimate stop for the day is the iconic Ait Benhaddou, a fortified village and a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1986. This place has graced the silver screen in numerous famous films like Gladiator, Game of Thrones, Lawrence of Arabia, and more. After immersing yourself in its historic charm, we continue our journey to Ouarzazate, also known as "The Gate of the desert". Your day concludes with a delightful dinner at the hotel where you'll spend the night.
-
Day 2: Ouarzazate » Draa Valley » Nkob » Merzouga Desert » Erg Chebbi[370Km]
After a good breakfast at your hotel or riad in Ouarzazate, we'll set off on the next part of the journey towards the Draa Valley, where you'll see one of Morocco's longest rivers. Along the way, we'll take some breaks to snap photos and admire the amazing old buildings and Berber villages by the roadside, along with the lush palm groves in the Draa Valley. When your tummy rumbles, you'll get some time to have lunch in either Nkob or Alnif, depending on when you're feeling hungry.
After that, we'll continue our drive to the desert, which takes about two hours, and we'll arrive at the beautiful Merzouga dunes, known for their soft, golden sands. Here, we'll switch from our regular vehicles to a more traditional mode of transport, using animals like camels to venture deeper into the heart of the Erg Chebbi desert.
When we get to the desert camp, you'll be settled into comfy Berber tents, made just like the ones used by the Berber families who roam the desert. As the sun goes down and the stars come out, you'll enjoy a lovely dinner under the starry sky, serenaded by the rhythmic beats of Berber drums. It's a magical night in the desert that you'll remember.
-
Day 3: Merzouga Desert » Rissani Market » Todra Gorges » Dades Valley[278Km]
On the third day of our 4 days tour from Marrakech to Merzouga, your camel guide will gently wake you up early for a special treat - watching the sunrise from a sand dune near the camp. It's a must-do experience, and you'll be rewarded with the most breathtaking sunrise you've ever seen. After taking in the stunning views, we'll head back to camp for a hearty breakfast and a refreshing shower. Then, it's time to hop on the camels for our journey back to the Merzouga area.
Next, we'll leave the desert and make our way to Rissani, where we'll explore the local marketplace (open on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday). From there, we'll continue to Erfoud, where you can visit workshops that craft beautiful items from fossilized marble. Our journey continues to Touroug and Tinjdad, and after about an hour, we'll arrive at one of the most picturesque places in the High Atlas mountains - the Todra Gorges. The river has sculpted these magnificent cliff-sided canyons and caves. It's a popular spot for climbers, and we'll take a short walk through the gorges to truly appreciate the stunning landscape.
In the afternoon, we'll head to the Boumalne Dades Valley, also known as the Figs Valley, passing through the Dades Gorges where we'll make a stop at the "monkey legs". We'll end the day with a delicious dinner and a peaceful night's rest at the Dades Gorges.
-
Day 4: Dades Valley » Roses Valley » Skoura » High Atlas Mountains » Marrakech[324Km]
On your last day, after a morning meal at your hotel or riad, we'll kick things off by taking you to a fantastic spot in the mountains. From there, you'll get a great view of numerous kasbahs and their unique features. Our journey then continues as we head to Rose Valley, known as Kalaat M'Gouna, which is the rose capital of Morocco. Along the way, we'll make some stops to soak in the beauty of the "One Thousand Kasbahs Road".
We'll reach the expansive Skoura palm grove, then make our way to Ouarzazate, where we'll visit the Kasbah of Taourirt, which used to be the home of the Glaoui or *Marrakech Pasha*, representing the king in the region. If you're interested, we can also explore the cinema studios and the cinema museum. Lunch will be served in Ouarzazate.
Following that, we'll start our journey back to Marrakech, traveling through the Tizi N'Tichka mountain pass with some stops for you to capture beautiful snapshots. As we leave behind the moon-like landscapes, we'll enter a world bursting with colors. We aim to arrive in Marrakech around 6 pm, where we'll take you back to your hotel, marking the end of our 4 days tour from Marrakech to Merzouga.
